Girls' trip

Submitted by Amanda Fritz on June 3, 2008 - 11:25am.

This beautiful young woman and I are heading out of town. We take an annual summer trip to Ashland to see plays, and we scheduled it this year for immediately after Ali's graduation as a good way to celebrate. The boys in our family are invited, but always decline. And that's fine with my delightful daughter and me.

We return on Friday. Hope you enjoy the week as much as we will.

I have such great memories of Ashland, a truly magical place. Make sure you wander up into Lithia park and drink some mineral water for me. Dave Lister

Amanda & Ali! I looked you up on Google when I saw your pic in the Oregonian this weekend. Got to your blog and saw the beautiful pic of Ali. You're SO grown up, Ali! I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you remember your synchro days fondly.......I still listen to your 'Bewitched' routine now and then! Good luck to both of you -- does your dad still have his zebra car? -Coach Christina

I visited the fountain, Dave, but they took out the Lithia water a year or so ago. Too corrosive on the pipes, the sign says - so imagine what it does to human insides :) Hi, Christina! Yes, Steve still drives the zebra car to work, and I borrow it for parades and suchlike. Folks, Christina was Ali's synchronized swimming coach, on a Portland Parks & Recreation team, for six years. One of those mentors outside of family, that are so important to raising children. And I still sport the synchro bumper sticker on my car: "Synchronized swimmers: Waiting to Inhale".

If I remember right, thirty five years ago you could keep walking uphill in the park, which ultimately ended in national forest land. Further up the trails you could find lithia water springs bubbling out of the ground. Dave Lister
